Family Landscapes

Big-sky scenery and city lights for families who want more than a classic circuit. Shanghai for the skyline and a theme-park day, Zhangjiajie for the forested sandstone pillars and the cliff-top cable car, and Chongqing for the night-lit riverside buildings and the monorail that runs through an apartment block. One flight and one short high-speed train.

Entry, season and planning notes

Entry route

Suits 30-day visa-free and mutual-exemption passports. Indian families apply for a visa; a group visa can be used when the family travels together on the same itinerary.

When to go

April–May and September–October. Zhangjiajie is misty and wet in early summer and cold in winter; Chongqing summers are hot and humid.

Planning notes

  • Rooms: we quote the real family configuration, such as connecting rooms, family suites or triples, not twin-share defaults.
  • Zhangjiajie's park buses and cable cars queue in peak weeks; we start early and use the elevator and cable-car timing to stay ahead of the crowds.
  • Glass-bridge and cliff-walkway sections are optional; every Zhangjiajie day works without them.
  • Vegetarian and Jain dining needs more planning in Zhangjiajie than in Shanghai or Chongqing; we fix the restaurants before quoting.

FAQ

Questions agents ask about this route

Is Zhangjiajie suitable for grandparents?

Yes, with the right routing. The main viewpoints are reached by park bus, cliff elevator and cable car, and the walks between them are short and mostly flat. We plan an easier version of each day for older travellers.

Can a theme-park day be swapped for something else?

Yes. Replace it with the Shanghai Museum, a water town or a slower city day; the rest of the itinerary does not change.

How spicy is Chongqing food?

Very, by default. Every hotpot restaurant offers a mild broth alongside the spicy one, and we choose restaurants that do both properly for families.
